Five things to know about vaccine allergies

Only one in 760,000 vaccinations will respond with anaphylaxis and for all other side effects, there are ways around any problem, a new study shows. Five facts about allergies to vaccines, pulled together by two McMaster University physicians, were published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ), are: Immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated allergies to vaccines are extremely uncommon: Responding to a vaccine with hives, swelling, wheezing or anaphylaxis happens in about one of 760,000 vaccinations. Choose wisely - go organic this Holi!

With Holi -the festival of colours coming up -- everyone is busy buying colours, 'pichkaris', and balloons but with increasing environment pollution and severe allergic reactions to synthetic colours, there is a growing awareness among people to opt for organic variants. "In an approximately Rs 4,500-crore unorganised Holi colour market, the share of the organic variety is miniscule, but growing," said Madhumita Puri, Founder and Executive Director of Avacayam Naturals, a Delhi-based manufacturer of organic colours. The adverse effects of synthetic colours was observed in a study titled 'The Holi Dermatoses', published in the Indian Journal of Dermatology. It found a spate in skin diseases following the spring festival in India. Sucking your baby's pacifier may help benefit their health

Business Standard : If you think sucking your baby's pacifier to clean it and then popping it in your child's mouth is gross, think again! Turns out, doing so may benefit their health . The research was presented at the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology 2018 Annual Scientific Meeting and suggested a link between parental sucking on a pacifier and a lower allergic response among young children. Researchers stated that parents may be passing healthy oral bacteria in their saliva that in turn affected the early development of their child's immune system. The study is believed to the first of its kind to evaluate the association between pacifier cleaning methods and the antibody Immunoglobulin E, or IgE. IgE is linked to the development of allergies and asthma. Cannabis allergy may worsen asthma symptoms in children

But a new research showed that it's possible for both children and adults with uncontrolled asthma to find their symptoms worsening due to cannabis allergy and exposure to marijuana smoke. A new research, conducted at the American College of Allergy, Asthma , and Immunology, analysed the livelihood of people smoking marijuana and how it affects the health of people around them. "A 6-year-old boy suffering from severe asthma had family members who frequently smoked marijuana in the house," said Bryce Hoffman, lead author of the study. "Even though family members didn't smoke marijuana in the same room as the child, he was exposed to traces of smoke and plant material.
