Asia’s biggest motor show drew to a close on Wednesday bringing the curtains down on the six-day extravaganza. Even though it fell short of the overall number of participation, it was one of the biggest in terms of partaking by new entrants. Beating the slowdown that has sapped buyer’s sentiments and hit volumes at auto companies for the past year-and-a-half, a total of 608,526 people visited the show at the Great Noida Expo Mart between February 7 and 12, according to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam). With a peek into the future of mobility via green technologies, the exposition included 352 product displays from 108 exhibitors. This included eight global premiers and over 70 launches and unveils. It also comprised introduction of 35 electric vehicles and 15 concepts. HSBC Holdings PLC on Monday said profit grew 5 percent in the six months through June and announced its third share buyback in a year, indicating continued progress in the six-year turnaround plan of Europe's biggest bank. HSBC, like many global banks, spent the years up to the 2008 financial crisis expanding its empire with a string of acquisitions. Recent years have seen it cut jobs and sell assets worldwide to shrink the group back to profitability and maintain dividend payouts in an era of stricterc. The bank's Chief Executive Officer Stuart Gulliver and Chairman Douglas Flint are both retiring, leaving a legacy of improving revenue and returning more capital to shareholders, having focused on trimming the bank's empire and shifting focus to Asia. India and China will account for almost half of all new mobile subscribers expected to be added globally by the end of 2020, a new study has found. According to the 2017 edition of 'Mobile Economy: Asia Pacific' report published recently at the 'Mobile World Congress Shanghai', forecasts that India will account for 27 per cent (206 million) and China 21 per cent (155 million) of the approximately 753 million new mobile subscribers by the end of the decade. The Asia-Pacific region as a whole is forecast to increase from 2.7 billion unique mobile subscribers at the end of 2016 to 3.1 billion in 2020, accounting for two-thirds of global growth.
