After Mitron app, Google takes down 'Delete China Apps' from Play Store

Image
Google  has pulled down the ‘Delete China Apps’ app from its application distribution platform Play Store for Android devices. Though the search giant did not detail the reason, it is learned that the app was taken down for violating  Google  Play Store’s Deceptive Behaviour Policy, according to a news report in TechCrunch. Developed by Jaipur-based app development and web designing start-up OneTouchAppLabs, the Remove China Apps gained popularity in India largely because of a growing anti-China sentiment due to border dispute between India and China in the Pangong region of higher Himalayas. Launched in April, the app soon became the top free app and the top trending app on  Google  app store. It had crossed a million downloads within a short span of 15 days, and had a 4.8 star rating out of 5 star on the Play Store before it was taken down. Read Complete Article

Patanjali files case against 13 firms for illegal export of its products

Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved has reportedlymoved the Delhi High Court against 13 exporters, accusing them of repackaging its products for exports illegally. Economics Times, quoting a person familiar with the case reported that 13 exporters were allegedly buying items that the company sells only in India and repackaging them for export to Middle East, Canada and Australia. The exporters repack the items as though they have clearance from the FDA in respective foreign markets, which is not only illegal but also unethical, ET reported. According to the report, the Delhi High Court would hear Patanjali's case on Wednesday. For a company that started as a small pharmacy in 1997, Patanjali has launched more than two dozen mainstream FMCG products — from toothpaste, shampoos and other personal care products to modern convenience foods such as cornflakes and instant noodles. Annual sales have doubled every year since 2013 to touch Rs 10,500 crore.

Baba Ramdev: Desi 'WhatsApp' now; apparel, swadeshi food chain next?

After hastily withdrawing their new messaging app amid glaring security flaws, an Indian billionaire and his penurious yoga guru partner are about to have another go at it. Acharya Balkrishna, who collaborated with celebrity yogi Baba Ramdev to build an Indian consumer goods empire, plans a formal release of the Kimbho messenger app within weeks as he tries to create a challenger to Facebook Inc’s dominant WhatsApp. But first he has to fix it. “ We pledge not to launch the app until a team of expert hackers and security specialists plug all the security and privacy loopholes,” Balkrishna said in a phone interview as he promised more advanced features than his rival. The hurried withdrawal of the app, whose name translates as “what’s up” in Sanskrit, a day after its release in May was a rare setback for Balkrishna and Ramdev. The pair built Patanjali Ayurved into a business with $1.6 billion of annual revenue by selling soap, skin cream and instant noodles that embrace t...

Patanjali takes cue from FMCG players, pivots away from branded franchise outlets

Image
A few years ago, Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved had disrupted the market with its natural-herbal proposition, forcing major fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) firms to follow the trend. After growing by leaps and bounds during the past five years, now it seems it is Patanjali’s turn to follow the conventional FMCG players to hold on to its success in the coming years. The firm, which so far has depended heavily on branded franchise outlets for growth, is now looking to aggressively expand its retail presence by taking the tried-and-tested channel distribution route that FMCG companies have been relying on for decades. While it currently has 5,000 distributors, Patanjali has set a target of increasing the number to 25,000 in the next two years. The move would be crucial to meet the ambitious target of annual sales of Rs 1,00,000 crore by 2020 set by its co-founder Baba Ramdev. “ While we are continuously increasing our production capacity, which now stands at Rs 50,000 crore a y...
