Pollachi sex scandal: TN police summons DMK leader Thendral Selvaraj's son

The Crime Branch-CID of the Tamil Nadu police, probing the Pollachi sexual assault case , has summoned Thendral Manimaran, son of DMK's Coimbatore rural district secretary Thendral Selvaraj. Manimaran has been asked to appear on March 28. In the Pollachi sex scandal, more than 50 women were allegedly lured and sexually harassed by a gang of four and the acts were filmed. Four accused persons identified as Sabarirajan, Sathish, Thirunavukarasu and Vasan Kumar were arrested in the case under Sections 392, 354 (A), 354 (B) of the Indian Penal Code and 66A of the Information Technology Act. On March 15, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court seeking a court-monitored probe into the sex scandal. The case was transferred to the CB-CID which initiated an inquiry into the matter on March 13 after receiving requisite documents from the local police. Business Standard : Nearly a year after the demise of 44-year-old anti-freebie crusader-advocate S. Subramaniam Balaji, Tamil movie " Sarkar " has stirred a controversy over the freebie schemes of the state government. Protesters outside theatres in Coimbatore, Chennai and Madurai have been damaging the film's banners and demanding the removal of certain scenes from A.R. Murugadoss directed political thriller that hit the screens this week. The ruling AIADMK is angry at the Vijay starrer for criticsing their schemes. Many AIADMK ministers and party cadres expressed their displeasure over certain scenes by damaging banners of the film and cut-outs of the actor. It is, however, neither Vijay nor Murugadoss, but the late Balaji, who deserves credit for this anti-freebie crusade. Coimbatore: Doctors remove 33.5 kg ovarian tumor, eye world record

Business Standard : Doctors at a Coimbatore based hospital have successfully removed an ovarian tumor weighing 33.5kgs. The patient, Vasantha , is an agricultural laborer from Ooty. She ignored the growing size of her stomach as she felt no pain or discomfort but was compelled to take medical help as her abdomen became larger with time and she started experiencing pain. Local surgeons, after conducting necessary tests, concluded that she has an ovarian tumor; however they refused to undertake a surgery citing slim chances of survival for Vasantha. "Pain was the main cause and it was unbearable. I was not able to walk, not able to have proper food and also suffered from breathlessness. Then I finally decided to visit a doctor," said the patient. She got to know about a Coimbatore based hospital, where a team of doctors, including Dr. Senthil Kumar, Dr. Piyush, Dr. Anita, and Dr. Satish Kumar, successfully removed her tumor.
