Constable held for raping 6-yr-old daughter in C'agarh

A police constable has been arrested for allegedly raping his six-year-old daughter in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district, an official said Wednesday. As per the complaint filed by the 45-year-old accused's wife, he allegedly raped the child at their home in the city on March 29 and threatened her not to disclose it to anyone, the police official said. The girl, however, later informed about the incident to her mother who approached the police on Monday, he said. The accused, posted at Sarangarh police station in the district, was arrested on Tuesday, the official said. He was booked under Indian Penal Code Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation), and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused was later produced in a local court which remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days, he said. Three of family found dead in UP's Balrampur

Three members of a family were found dead and another was seriously injured at their house in Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh, police said Monday. They were sleeping in their house in Jogiyapur village when some unidentified persons killed them with sharp-edged weapons Sunday night, Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya said. The deceased were identified as house owner Jagram (55), his son Raju (25) and daughter Lilawati (20) while his daughter-in-law Nirmal Devi (22) was seriously injured and has been admitted to hospital, the SP said. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, he said. Three police teams have been constituted to work out the case and help from forensic experts is also being taken, the SP added.

On April 3, 2017, Arjun Bharadwaj, a 24-year-old management student, committed suicide by jumping out of a 19th-floor hotel room in Mumbai. Media reporting suggested he had been depressed about failure in exams and repeatedly talked about ending his life on social media. There were also suggestions he was battling drug addiction. Bharadwaj’s story made the headlines–likely because he killed himself at a five-star hotel and discussed suicide methods on   Facebook – but it is no exception: Every hour, one student commits suicide in India, according to 2015 data (the latest available) from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). In 2015, the number of student suicides stood at 8,934. In the five years leading to 2015, 39,775 students killed themselves.
