Budget 2020: Commerce ministry seeks a reduction in import duty on gold

The Union commerce ministry has sought a reduction in the import duty on gold in the coming Union Budget , with a view to pushing manufacturing and export of the gems and jewellery sector, a source said. In last year’s Budget, the government raised the tariff on gold to 12.5 per cent. Since then, the global price of gold has risen nearly 20 per cent, magnifying the rise in customs duty. These, the gems and jewellery sector has pleaded, are choking the high-jobs generating sector. Jewellery retailers and exporters have urged the tariff be cut and also the goods and services tax (GST) on jewellery certification. “ In the past 12-18 months, at least 20 per cent of a skilled workforce of an estimated million has migrated to other services, including food delivery chains like Swiggy and public car transportation services like Ola and Uber. Gold: Akshay's ninth film to enter Rs. 100 cr club

Akshay Kumar 's 'Gold' has finally crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark on its 13th day to become the actor's ninth film to enter the coveted club. The film, which hit the theatres on Independence Day, has earned a whopping Rs. 100.45 crore. Film critic Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to make the announcement, writing, "#Gold crosses Rs. 100 cr mark on Day 13... [Week 2] Fri 1.85 cr, Sat 3.10 cr, Sun 4.75 cr, Mon 1.45 cr. Total: Rs. 100.45 cr. India biz... Akshay Kumar's ninth film in Rs. 100 cr Club." In the flick, the 'Padman' star plays the role of Tapan Das, a character which is based on the man who led India to win gold at the 1948 London Olympics. ' Gold ' marked the debut of TV sensation Mouni Roy on the big screen. The sports drama also boasts of an ensemble cast including Amit Sadh, Kunal Kapoor, Vineet Singh, and Sunny Kaushal, among others.

For an actor who famously started his working life as a waiter and a cook and whose early days in Bollywood were spent leaping mid-air, Akshay Kumar has come a long way. With $40.5 million (Rs 2.78 billion) to his name and ranked 76 in the global Forbes Top Earning 100 Celebrities 2018 list, he is the biggest celebrity brand that India has today, leaving the industry’s three Khans (Salman, Shah Rukh and Aamir) who have held sway for years, way behind. Kumar has moved up four places from 2017 list (80) and ousted Salman Khan from the pedestal. SBI waives off up to 100% processing fee on car, gold, personal loans

With the festival season starting soon, banks are beginning to introduce their annual festive offers. The country’s largest bank, the State Bank of India (SBI) , announced a waiver of up to 100 per cent of processing fees on car loans, gold loans, and personal loans on Monday. In the second week of August, private sector lender ICICI Bank introduced the instant credit card for online shopping with a credit limit of up to Rs 4 lakh, based on pre-checked bureau scores. ICICI Bank has said customers can use the card for availing of offers on shopping, travel and entertainment offered by its online partners during the festive season. Punjab National Bank’s Monsoon Bonanza season has been running since June and it had waived processing fees for home and auto loans.
