Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata among cities that may be submerged by 2050: Report

Parts of Mumbai, Surat, Chennai and Kolkata will be either underwater or ravaged by recurring floods by 2050 as sea levels across the world will continue to rise with increasing carbon emissions. Across India, an estimated 31 million people live in coastal areas at risk of annual flooding, a number that could go up to 35 million by mid-century and rise further to 51 million by the year 2100. These projections are based on extreme-case scenarios if global carbon emissions continue to rise unabated. At the moment, 250 million people around the globe live in areas at risk of annual coastal floods. “ This research means that the stakes are even higher than we thought,” said Benjamin H. Google Doodle pays homage to legendary Kathak dancer Sitara Devi

Google today celebrates the 97th birth anniversary of legendary Kathak dancer Sitara Devi with a special Doodle. Born in Kolkata on November 8, 1920, Sitara Devi's family was originally from Varanasi. She started learning Kathak from a very young age and by the time she was ten, she started giving solo performances. When she was just 16 years old, Sitara Devi was described by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore as Nritya Samragini ('Empress of Dance') for her vibrant energy, effortless footwork, and unparalleled ability to bring a story to life. Over the years, she gave performances in several parts of India, and in several other countries, including at the Royal Albert Hall, London in 1967; and at the Carnegie Hall, New York in 1976. Bandhan Bank to open 160 branches more

Bandhan Bank is targetting to open another 160 branches to reach the 1000-mark by the end of this financial year, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Bandhan bank Chandra Shekhar Ghosh said on Sunday. "We are planning to open more branches at different locations and reach the 1000-mark by the end of this financial year (2017-18)," Ghosh told reporters here on Sunday. The bank currently has 840 branches spread across different states in the country. The bank is also planning to introduce mutual fund and insurance service by this September, Ghosh said. Meanwhile, Bandhan-Konnagar, a not-for-profit organization which is working in the sphere of education, health and women empowerment, today celebrated "Development Day" on completion of 17 years of its existence. Shah Rukh Khan to be present at Eden for IPL tie

Principal owner and Bollywood star  Shah Rukh Khan  will be in attendance along with a galaxy of other B-town stars when Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lock horns with Mumbai Indians (MI) in their final league game at the Eden Gardens here on Saturday. Confirming this, CEO Venky Mysore on Thursday said: "You will see him on Saturday. He will have a big entourage with him as well." "He is looking forward to it.
