The Crime Branch-CID of the Tamil Nadu police, probing the Pollachi sexual assault case , has summoned Thendral Manimaran, son of DMK's Coimbatore rural district secretary Thendral Selvaraj. Manimaran has been asked to appear on March 28. In the Pollachi sex scandal, more than 50 women were allegedly lured and sexually harassed by a gang of four and the acts were filmed. Four accused persons identified as Sabarirajan, Sathish, Thirunavukarasu and Vasan Kumar were arrested in the case under Sections 392, 354 (A), 354 (B) of the Indian Penal Code and 66A of the Information Technology Act. On March 15, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court seeking a court-monitored probe into the sex scandal. The case was transferred to the CB-CID which initiated an inquiry into the matter on March 13 after receiving requisite documents from the local police. Internet services were suspended in Maharashtra's Pune district today to prevent rumour-mongering in view of the Maratha quota agitation, police said. Superintendent of Police (SP) Sandip Patil told PTI the Internet services were temporarily suspended in Baramati, Shirur, Khed, Junnar, Maval, Bhor and Daund rural tehsils of the district. The step was taken to prevent any untoward incident after violent protests were witnessed during the Maratha community's protest for reservation last month, he said. Chakan, an industrial hub located in Khed tehsil, witnessed large-scale violence during the Maratha quota agitation on July 30, when around 70 buses were torched and damaged in the area. Patil said there was no information of any untoward incident in the district so far. Maratha Bandh : Schools and colleges as well as plants of several companies will remain shut in Maharashtra's Pune district in view of the bandh called by the Maratha organisations over their reservation demand. Collector Naval Kishore Ram in an order issued here said there will be road blockades and processions tomorrow and the possibility of stone-pelting on vehicles and arson cannot be ruled out. Therefore, schools and colleges have been asked to remain closed tomorrow and an advisory has been issued in this connection, the order said. "Even if there is no untoward incident during the protest, roads might be blocked and we don't want students to be inconvenienced and parents to be anxious unnecessarily," the collector told PTI.
