'Virtual tumour' model to offer new treatment against cancer

Business Standard : British scientists have built a novel virtual reality (VR) 3D model of cancer that will help increase the understanding of cancer as well as in the search for new treatment. Researchers from the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) took from a patient the tumour sample -- a one millimetre cubed piece of breast cancer tissue biopsy -- containing around 100,000 cells, the BBC reported on Wednesday. The team cut the tissue into wafer thin slices and scanned them. Then they stained the slices with markers to show their molecular make-up and DNA characteristics. The tumour was rebuilt using VR, which was analysed within a VR laboratory. "No one has examined the geography of a tumour in this level of detail before; it is a new way of looking at cancer," the BBC quoted Greg Hannon, Director of CRUK's Cambridge Institute, as saying. SSC 2017: Exam pattern, practice test and other tips

As the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has decided to conduct the re-examination of Multi-Tasking Staff (Non-Technical) Examination, 2016 (Paper-I) from September 16 to October, the candidates are requested to visit the Commission’s official site for updates on the release of Admit Cards as soon as they are available. The Commission is going to announce the SSC Multitasking Staff Admit Card soon in the 1st Week of September for about 8,300 vacancies of multitasking staff. The Commission had received around seventy lakhs application forms for the exam. As per the latest updates announced by the Commission, the written examination will now be conducted through the online mode. A Computer Based Test will be conducted to shortlist the participants. TNEA 2017: Counselling Starts On July 17 Onward

The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) 2017 will start the single window counselling system on July 17 (Monday). It will start with counselling for vocational stream candidates on Monday and Tuesday followed by the academic stream candidates, July 23 (Sunday) and end on August 11 (Friday) as confirmed by the higher education minister K P Anbazhagan at a press conference. It has also been confirmed that Counselling for seats in the differently abled category would be undertaken on July 19 (Wednesday). Verification of sports quota certificates will be on July 19 and 20 followed by the counselling for this quota on July 21 (Friday). And the counselling for General Category students seeking admission to engineering will be held from July 23 to August 11.
